Echeveria runyonii Topsy Turvy
Unknown.
The plant is thought to originated in California.
A plant with leaves that appear to be
upside-down. So popular it is that it
has superseded the normal type, which is not readily available now.
Distributed by the ISI No. 1647.
The picture opposite is a young plant which shows the compact symmetrical
arrangement of leaves, before offsets and inflorescences appear, which are
somewhat spoiled. However the profuse production of flowers and the short
stem makes up for this.
Some of my plants have mutated to a cristate or monstrous form or variant
which is shown below. This form grows into a tight ball which presents difficulties
in removing dead leaves especially in the Winter. Not many flowers develop
but each inflorescence is true to type.

CULTIVATION:
Fairly easy for the normal type, use a well drained C&S compost with some
added slow release fertiliser. Growth in the summer is rapid so repot when
the plant outgrows it's container. In the winter, conditions should be just
enough water to stop drying out at a temperature of 2/5ºC Good air circulation
and full light is helpful.
The monstrous form needs growing in a shallow pan as rooting is sparse and
the plant easily rots off before it is noticed.
PROPAGATION:
Easy from cuttings, leaves and offsets,
I have never tried seeds or the flowering stem technique.
