Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi variegata K38
A very colourful cultivar of the normal blue-green, pink edged leaf form, both of which have the same brownish - yellow flowers in our winter.
The normal non-variegated plant originates in the Montaine (cloud) forest area of Madagascar.
This variegated form is probably a garden hybrid.
Branches are initially semi-prostrate finally ascending held up by stiff proproots, which can be seen in the top left illustration.
The leaves are up to 5 cms long by 2/3 cms wide with crenate (rounded teeth) margins.
In the Summer the showy cream and pink leaf variegation develops.
Each branch grows up to 40 cms then the stem is terminated by the inflorescence.

CULTIVATION: Easy with a rich well drained C&S compost and good lighting especially in the short daylight months. Winter minimum temps 3º to 5º with a little water, when the compost dries out.
Sometimes all cream/white leaves are produced, which cannot sustain the plant due to a complete lack of chlorophyll, such leaves usually wither.

Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi variegata - new adventitious buds forming in the leaf notches.

PROPAGATION: Easy from cuttings, leaves and adventitious buds when these have reached a size that can be handled.
Do not use leaves or adventitious plants without green (chlorophyll) content as these will almost certainly fail.
Nothing is known about seed raising from this plant but it is likely to be sterile.
