Tylecodon hallii Harry Hall 1977 (Tolken). Previously named Cotyledon hallii.
Locations Southern Namibia; Northern Namaqualand, Northern Cape.
Ref. Jumanary S4 694/81 12/9/81.
Another bonsai-like miniature shrub that must grow in our Winter, with leaves that start off bright green then change to yellow-brown before withering at the end of the growing season.
The dried leaves and inflorescence are persistent but the leaves are easily dislodged.
This plant has a swollen stem (caudex) which qualifies it to be a caudiciform. In our Summer it is completely dormant and should be given a rest.

CULTIVATION: is fairly easy using a well drained, C & S compost and grown in good light. In the growing season water when the compost is dry, no water in the Summer. Winter minimum temperature is 5ºC but better at 9ºC. Re pot every 2/3 years using the above compost with added slow release fertiliser.

PROPAGATION: from cuttings in late Autumn, or from seed when available fresh.

CAUTION:
Tylecodon caudex's contain the poison 'cotyledontoxin' that can kill, if eaten by animals.
