Sedum dasyphyllum Linnaeus
/ Maire ?
Locations North Africa, South and West
Europe, including England as an escapee.
A marvellous miniature Sedum species very hardy but it can easily be
overrun by
larger plants so is best grown in containers.
My plant is one of a large number of sub species but which
one I am uncertain.
The flowers are 8 mm in width white with a pink keel. Two types of leaf
growth can be seen; one as blue green densely packed along the ground
level stolons; and the others on the ascending flowering branches, which
have pink, sparingly leafy, almost globular leaves.

CULTIVATION:
is very easy using a poor, well drained C & S compost and grown
with exposure to full sunlight outside. In the growing season water
normally, in the winter
a pane of glass will keep it very happy
at -5ºC or lower if dry.
Re pot every 2/3 years using a high potash low nitrogen
compost. Slow release fertiliser in minimal amounts can be useful.
PROPAGATION: is easy from offsets or cuttings in Spring and Summer.
Handling of the plants should be kept to a minimum, as they will easily
fall to pieces and you end up with more cuttings than you bargained
for. Shallow pots or pans are best.
