Echeveria
X gilva
Eric Walther
A highly succulent hybrid from E. agavoides X E.
elegans first recorded in 1935 and may have existed before then. van Keppel
reproduced the cross in 1965 - 1971 to an F3 generation. The plant is very attractive
in Winter when the leaves are suffused with a red flush. The mature rosettes
grow up to 20 cm Ø and eventually form many offsets.
The inflorescence is up to 30 cm tall, bearing pinkish red and yellow 1 cm flowers.
If the flowers are successful I will add a picture of them later on in the Spring.
OK done!
CULTIVATION:
Fairly easy in normal C&S compost with some added slow release fertiliser.
Growth in the summer is fairly rapid so repot when the plant outgrows it's container.
In the winter, conditions should be just enough water to stop drying out at
a temperature of 3/5ºC, and good air circulation and decent light is best.
PROPAGATION:
In Spring and early Summer by leaves or offsets when these develop.
The flowering stem technique is not likely to take
with the thin inflorescence stems produced by this hybrid.
