Echeveria recurvata Les
Carruthers
The top left image is a plant acquired
in 1976 wrongly named E. recurvatum , it could be a recurvata variation
or even a Dudleya. We may never know as it passed away some 10/12 years
ago without flowering.
The top left image is an unrooted cutting bought from Ron Evans on 16
February this year (2003), which I hope to grow on and flower.
Documented material, from the ISI and supplied by Ron, gives details
as follows:
"E. recurvata ISI 90-55 Carruthers. Described in 1974 , HBG 48447,
propagated from a plant collected July 1982 by Charles Uhl # 2743 @
1.6 Km below Mocanqua and 7.6 Km below Mucuchies, Dept. Merida, Venezuela".
The top middle image shows two extracts from my copy of Les Carruther's
'Cadley Miniature Plants'

1975 catalogue. The front cover features
an excellent line drawing of the plant.
I have found some photos of E. recurvata in flower on the Net but these
were not very good quality and cannot be used for identification. If
and when my new plant flowers I will include a photo on this page.
CULTIVATION:
Moderately easy using an open well drained compost. Do not use gravel
as a top dressing as the leaves curve over the compost and the combination
of these two factors could cause rotting. 'Hortag' aggregate would be
better.
In winter ensure good ventilation with a minimum
temperature of 4/5ºC and just enough water to stop drying out.
PROPAGATION:
New plants can be produced from stem cuttings or leaves in Spring and
early summer.
