Echeveria derenbergii J. A. Purpus
A popular plant grown by thousands world-wide, experts and beginners alike .
Place of origin is Mexico; Cerro verde, southwest of Sierra de Mixteca, State of Oaxaca.
The blue - grey leaves are attractively red tipped with reddish margins. The habit is compact at first, later tending to sprawl with the weight of numerous offsets. Flowering is in the Spring.

Cultivation is easy in full light. In the winter, the plants need occasional watering to stop drying out. Growing at 3/4ºC, plus some air circulation is helpful. Propagation by leaves or stems, is easy but leaves produce better plants. I have not yet tried rooting flower stems but this is unnecessary when other parts of the plant will readily root at any time in the growing season. I usually cut the tops off large plants and insert 4/5 in a pot.
