Pachyphytum compactum Dr. J. N. Rose
This plant is known by almost every cactus and succulent grower as a beginners plant easy to grow and propagate. It will grow under very many adverse conditions and as a result is usually neglected in some corner of the greenhouse where it never gives of its best. Grown in reasonable light it will produce its pink/ orange inflorescence with a

bluish tip to each petal.
In the above picture the inflorescence is just starting to develop. A cristate form exists but it usually reverts to the normal. On occasion leaf cuttings may produce a cristate form and with care may continue by regular removal of the normal shoots. Average cool house conditions will suffice with not too much water in cold spells.
