Cotyledon orbiculata hybrid #1
The Inflorescence looks normal at the bud stage but as the flowers open each flower becomes individually contorted as if mutated or genetically distorted.
Three possibilities for this could be :-
1. Mutation: by genetic modification causing a variability in flower forms.
2. Virus infection: damaging cells of the flowers, but not of the stem or leaves.
3. Insect infestation: causing damage at bud stage and completely hidden from view.
Either of these are possible but as the plant appeared to be in good health only the Mutation theory seems possible.
I will continue to keep the plant under observation hoping it will flower in 2002.
Also I have taken cuttings for comparison when they flower, and report on findings.
