Euphorbia primulifolia - Backer
Distributed in central Madagascar (Rauh, 1984).
A geophyte, developing a subterranean caudex up to 15 cm long and 7 cm wide, covered with a thick
brown, fissile, corky covering, tapering above to the shortened main stem. The leaves (4-12) form a radical rosette, each leaf oblong to oval, thick, dull green with undulating margins.

At the end of its annual dormancy the plant sends out its inflorescence through the dried up remains of last seasons leaves.
Cultivation is easy, it is happy in a warm situation best provided for in a heated propagator. Winter care presents no problems at 10 degrees C with plenty of light and no water. Re pot every 3 years.
