Euphorbia primulifolia - Backer
The above ten year old plant is one grown from a packet of five seeds, the only one to germinate.
It is very unusual for a Euphorbia in that it has a rosette of soft undulating dark green leaves perched on an underground caudex.
Two years ago I raised the caudex while repotting it, the whole plant is now 3 cms high and the leaves are 9 cms diameter across the rosette.
In the autumn the leaves die back and the plant is dormant until spring when the leaves start to

appear one at a time.
I have never before seen flowers on this plant, until this year that is.
In May this year, when tidying up the plant, I found two clusters of tiny pure white flowers under the leaves growing from the top of the caudex. Each flower was 7 or 8 mm in diameter and about 6mm long. There appeared to be male and female flowers on the plant and I celebrated the event by taking close up photographs.
