Echeveria
subrigida:
(Robinson
& Seaton) Rose 1903.
Cotyledon
subrigida
Robinson
& Seaton
1893.
Type Locality:
Mexico: San Luis Potosi, & Tultenango Canyon, Mexico.
Available in recent years as the true subrigida, after much confusion with the
E. cante. This plant is a little more robust without the heavy white farina.
The inflorescence is quite unlike cante and the flowers have unique scarlet
nectaries.
Cultivation easy:requires potting on regularly as the plant grows fast.
Winter
conditions - good light, much space, minimum water and 3/5ºC.
Propagation difficult: best from seed resulting from careful pollination as
it is too easy to be crossed with other echeveria's in flower.
I have not yet tried using the flowering stem cutting system - A 75 cm stem
would be quite a challenge. There is no sign of offsets on my plant and removing
the highly succulent leaves intact, would be very difficult.
If I do find another method of propagation I will post it on this web page.
