Echeveria chihuahuaensis Dr.
K. von Poellnitz
A
real gem in the Echeveria world from Chihuahua, in the valley of the
Rio Colorado, Mexico.
A stem- less species having a small rosette of many greyish white, red
edged leaves each ending with a distinctive point.
The colourful inflorescence is produced from late April to early June
and is 20 cm long, bearing up to eight, vivid orange-red, 11 mm long
flowers on a stem of the same colour.
Alas my plant succumbed to a very damp winter.

I
originally purchased this plant as Echeveria cuspidata and only recently
have been able to ascertain its proper
name.
Cultivation is difficult:
a well drained compost, plenty of light and good air circulation, plus
a
minimum temperature of 5ºC.
Propagation very difficult: only by leaf cuttings most of which fail.
After several years one may be lucky and have an offset develop which
might be detachable from the parent plant. Carry out this operation
in early summer with great care.
