Tavaresia barklyi T. Dyer
From S. W. Africa this plant likes it hot in fact the hotter the better. After a few mishaps with these plants I now grow them in my propagator where the temperature never drops below 15° C. Flies do pollinate the flowers and seed horns and seed has been produced, resulting in several batches of seedlings which all did well from fresh sowings.
Cultivation is tricky! the compost mix I use is 60%

very coarse sand plus loam and slow release fertiliser making up the balance of rich well drained soil in the bottom half of the pot tapering to pure sandy grit at the top. Propagation is easy from cuttings taken in the summer. Winter care is no problem at 15°C with plenty of light and virtually no water or damp. Re pot every 2 years using the standard stapeliad technique and starting with small plants. Large plants tend to get the damp in.
